I guess it's a matter of how much you want to compress the event.
It's not about compressing the event or abstracting the scene, it's
about resolving a single task that is being undertaken by multiple
characters. The 3.x rules for Aiding Another were essentially the
same thing, but these rules have a bit more depth, detail and
flexibility.
