Hi Guys and Girls and Indeterminates.

Ben-the-very-rare-poster here. Been enjoying reading you all as usual.

Hey...

The other night I started the game with a 'close your eyes, visualise,
focus and emerse moment'.

Worked really really well... so I thought I'd share the little bit of
text I wrote for it...

Does anyone else do this sort of thing when you game?
What else do you do to help focus people and build for mood for a good
beginning?

Read and discuss...

:-)

------------------

Close you eyes.

Imagine the scene.

It is summer. Clear sky, blazing sun.

Humid air. Insects buzzing through the dank, rotting forest.

The smell of earth and water, and decaying tree and flesh.

A formidable ruined keep - made from heavy black stone.

A room strewn with slack goblin living: a messy fireplace, smoldering
smokely; ruddy beds of straw and smeared blankets; chewed bones tossed
ammoung the rank clutter on the floor.

Four well equipped, unusually well equipped Hoggoblins, well trained
and drilled warrious, split open by axes and stung by your well placed
arrows.

The huge hulking bull headed figure sprawled facedown on the floor -
wounds gaping open on its back - hot red spilling in a large pool onto
the stone floor.

And finally the skewered, rob clothed figure of the bugbear socerer
dead on the floor of his chamber - a snarl of defiant hatred still on
his face.

Imagine the heat of muscles still hot from battle, the hard beating of
the heart.

Narsk feel the weight of your battle axe in your hands, see its blood
smeared surface and the gleeming edge honed with deadly perfection.

Typhena feel the bow in your left hand and feel your right hand
itching to pull another fire arrow from your quiver.

Thokk feel the rage inside you. The blinding desire to kill anything,
anything in your way. But also, Thokk, feel the overwhelming weakness
of the strange magic that still now saps your strength, making your
weapon in your hands feel heavy to lift, and the amour on your back to
combersum to bear.

All of you... see yourself.

See the way you stand in these, the first moments after battle. Feel
the clothes and amour on against your skin, the sweat dribbling down
your back, the dust on your hands, the feeling of your feet in their
boots.

Breathing as Thokk, Narsk & Typhena... now you can act!

Sounds interesting. I like the idea. Actually, for my players that smoke
pot, this would work exceptionally well. I intend to try it.

How charged with punishment the scroll,
I am the Master of my fate:
I am the Captain of my soul.
