Re: Smoothbore vs. Rifled Muskets

Mere moments before death, "Shawn Wilson" <ikonoqlast@xxxxxxxxx>
hastily scrawled:

Nope, the rifle only comes out ahead in *effective* range, which is
determined by accuracy. Rifles WERE much more accurate than muskets,
but
they didn't 'shoot harder'.

Do you have any numbers to back you up?

One of the advantages of a rifled weapon was that it could fire
elongated ammo without the bullet becoming (significantly) unstable.

Smoothbores can too...

For instance, the main in on an M1 tank is a smoothbore.

Why? because that allows a higher muzzle velocity.

*BZZZZT* Wrong answer!

What a surprise folks! Shawn is wrong, once again!

The reason for the M1 tank's gun being smoothbore is due to newer tank
rounds such as the M829A1 and other APFSDS rounds.

Jesus Christ, this is simple fucking Wikipedia research you fucking
retard.
