Re: 20Monk/20Fighter versus 20Fighter/20Monk??? Epic saves and attack boni.

This isn't really a matter of being "approximately credible". This is
a matter of being any kind of threat at all. Challenges simply aren't
fun when all you're trying to do is role a natural 20 so that you can
actually hit something. And they become relatively predictable when
the only way you can miss is by rolling a natural 1.

Once characters have opened up a 10 point difference in the skills/
saves/attack bonuses, the divergence is severe. If you actually get to
the point where you are literally no longer even in the same 20 point
spread, the system falls apart.

Also, with base saves not stacking the silly way they do RAW, the
difference between high and low saves isn't really so scary. Sure, the
Ftr40 has +22 base and the wizard has +13, but that's only a difference
of 9 points. Considering the amount of magic they should have around to
solve this, the number of feat slots they've had, and so on, they should
be able to find a way to shore this up, hmm?

But now you need to explain why anything the wizard would do to shore
up their saving throw isn't being done by the fighter, too.

Why wouldn't he?

Exactly my point. Thanks for admitting that your claim that this gap
would somehow be "shored up" and eliminated was completely bogus.
