Yeah, but I really don't think anything in Eberron is "completely
made up on the spot".
I get your point about the difference between something like Eberron
and something like Perdido Street Station, but I like both - and I
*dislike* the normal run of fantasy inspirations enough to greatly
prefer something "just made up" to the prospect of something in the
same old tapped-out vein.
And really, when did original fantasy ideas start getting dismissed as "just
made up"? Taking good inspirations is nice, but so is coming up with
something new and unseen.
