Read through some of the information in the 3.5 DMG on traps, starting on
page 67, and take a look through the "Designing a Trap" section on page 74.
For magical traps, the Search DC is easy - it's 25 + spell level.
For mechanical traps, the DC is 20 for a simple trap, and 21 or higher for a
complex one, so you could just take DC 20 as your base value.
If the trapped item has a listed Challenge Rating, you could take a look at
table 3-13 on page 74, and try to reverse-engineer the elements of the CR
from the trap's listed elements. If it doesn't add up, modify the Search DC
to account for it - a DC below 15 reduces the CR by 1, a DC higher than 24
increases it by +1, and higher than 29 increases it by a further +1.
