But what if the PC sells his services in his home town/city? He
adventures, but he always returns home as often as he can. The
city/town could be home to the entire party. This is certainly true
for my group.

Even if the player decides to set up shop somewhere he didn't grow up,
it is capriciously arbitrary to say the PC can never sell his spells.
