Re: Historical Sales Figures for D&D's Various Editions

Greetings!

Is there any reliable or even semi-reliable source out there for this? Which edition sold more units of the core books? Which has made the most adjusted dollars?

Nope.

TSR didn't track sales figures, that's why they went broke (or so the story goes). All I know is that the local game shop reckoned they sold more 3.0 stuff in the first 6 months than they'd sold of everything in the previous 5 years they'd been open; but it cooled off fairly quickly after that.

I dare say DnD isn't making as much money as WotC/Hasbro would want over the last three years, what with the ditching of quality writers, selling Dragon mag, and continuous direction changes in what's being produced.
The revision probably didn't bring in what was hoped for either. The "collectable" mini's look good though, with consistant production, and increasing tie-ins on the publishing side.
