No, not "in some fashion." By DEALING ENOUGH DAMAGE. Trip attacks do not deal damage. Thus, "dropping" an opponent by tripping him does not allow you to Cleave him.
Huh. But what if you trip your opponent off a cliff?

Yeah, and what if you're a monk in a grapple with someone that you trip and then shove off the cliff--does your slow fall ability stil work and does it save the wizard's mirror images too?
