Heh.

(I am guessing pop is some fizzy(?) drink with added caffeine?)

Soda. Don't know what word you use. Coke. :-) (Except I'm a
Pepsi person.)

That's still a surprise. (That you meant cola.)

Yeah, cola. Didn't think of that word. Around these parts we call it
pop. I've never heard that word on TV or in movies, so apparently out
in Hollywood they don't call it that.

It was a very long time ago, but when I was in Germany, there wasn't
much in the way of colas. They had Coke. Every restaurant we were
in, they'd see we were Americans and say, "Trinken? Coke, ja?"
Sheesh. No I don't want Coke just because I'm American. And there
was a brand name that was orange drink. I don't recall the brand, but
they make more sugary flavors than colas, and the only one was orange,
so if we wanted orange, we ordered that brand. And something about
7Up that I don't remember - I think ordering a 7Up got us something
else. I did learn not to order milk.

So... I hope they don't think we all still just want Coke. :-)

(By the way, that stuff doesn't have enough caffeine to bother
me.)

I know. I just didn't want to offend anyone by saying the caffeine
in cola isn't comparable to that in coffee. :)

If people are going to get offended, it should be over personal stuff,
not plain facts.

So that's what I did. (Except I started again during the
holiday, after about two or three weeks, mainly because sitting
at the computer my hands automatically roll them while pondering
something. That, or reaching for the coffee mug. What I need is
something for my fingers that I don't have to hold all the time,
and don't need to look at or think about.)

It's obvious you were not terribly addicted to them physically,
otherwise you would understand that. Seems more like you had a
"habit" addiction - that is, just something for your hands to do,
or habit of reaching for the thing. Some people can quit easily
and for other people it's a total nightmare, so it's a little
hard to judge based on your own experiences.

Yeah, but I'm megalomaniac, so I always take myself as a model.
(Except those areas where my own performance isn't up to what it
should be. <g> There I go by my personal ideal.)

My brother never had all that difficult a time quitting either,
even after many years of smoking, so he's never quite understood
why it was so difficult for me. Since it ws *extremely* difficult
for me, it's a little easier for me to understand when it's
difficult, or even impossible, for someone else.

I'm a bit more picky on where I'm compassionate. :)

It's not compassion. It's just real life understanding.

One warning I might give you. I don't know how old you are or
how long you've been smoking. But when I hadn't been smoking
very long, it wouldn't have been all that terribly difficult for
me to quit.

Back then it had been around seven or eight years. Now it's thirteen
years later. (I'm 37.)

I just "didn't feel like it." I tried once, missed
it a bit, but it wasn't that big a deal. Then decided I didn't
feel like it. So I also understand why for some people it isn't
that difficult, cause I was at that point once too.

But the longer I smoked, the more difficult it got. Eventually
it got nearly impossible and I wished I'd quit years earlier when
it would have been easier. It ended up being the most difficult
thing I've ever done in my life.

If you want me to prove it again, you almost managed it. :) (Except
I refuse to work that way.)

You don't have to do something just to prove something to someone
else. On the other hand, that was 13 years ago. Things change. (I
thought you meant you'd just done this recently.)
