Oh, wait. That's being in a bottle 10,000 years.

Either way, this always sucks. I spent four hours the other night and all I got
done was getting Windows installed and setting up my DSL. After another panic
when the DSL setup disk didn't recognize any network card. Now, I knew it was
turned on in the BIOS cause I went through that the last time. Ha! Well, I
forgot the drivers cause I'm not in the habit of that. Well, that was at least
easy this time. Whew!

And then immediately went to my work site to see if the whiteboard worked any
better. Nope! I didn't even have Avast installed yet, which seemed to be
giving it trouble. Clean install, I didn't mess with any default settings, etc.
And it still wasn't working right. So I draw the conclusion the new board they
uploaded is the culprit. Why it gives me more trouble than some other people, I
don't know. (I think it's the new Flash they made us download.)

Last night didn't have much time. So now I'm sans just about everything except
getting online. Going into withdrawal cause I haven't touched a game for a
week. Except my game partition is a mess. (I'm doing the "cheat" route by just
reinstalling Windows, then backing up and re-doing the other partitions one at a
time.)

But... the good news! I know no one will remember this. But long ago my DVD
drive stopped recognizing DVDs. It would still read CDs just fine. And there
never was a concensus whether this might be software or hardware. I uninstalled
and reinstalled the software but that didn't work. But you know how things like
to leave crumbs lying about. So I knew I'd never find out until I just
reinstalled Windows clean. And... it was software! It works now! Yippee! So
I watched a movie on the 'puter for the first time in ages.

Of course, I shoulda been working on backing up those other partitions so I can
have my life back. (And so that I can stop using this poor excuse for a
newsreader they have at newsguy.)

Congrats on getting the DVD working again. Maybe you should figure out
some plan for backing up the system partition this time?
