We don't think the same way, obviously. If you were a domestic cat, what
do you think your purpose is? You literally have no meaning of life, so
isn't that like waiting for death? Get fed, get taken care of suddenly all
mean nothing to you, because you are a cat that doesn't have to take on
responsibility. I was out of work for two years and I felt like I was
waiting for death, so that's why I took on gardening before I landed on a
job that also felt like waiting for death....
Life is what you make of it. I have been out of work for ten months
now, and I am -still- incredibly busy. I have a ton of projects, I go
to school, I have a few friends I spend time with, I do the things that
interest me. People ask me what I do with my time. My answer is always
'whatever I want to'. Well, except for cleaning house. I do not
especially want to, but it needs to be done.
Anyway. If you are just waiting for death, then you are cheating
yourself, and you are just wasting time. But the only one who can
change that is you. Get busy.
I was incredible busy even when I was out of work (eBay stuff, gardening,
computer gaming, watching DVDs, finished a short story). A lot of those
work was unnecessary but for some odd reason, I carried that habit on when
I first started to work, so it made my life always seemingly out of time
until I decided I need to stop. After I got promoted, a lot of time that
could do that productive work was shifted into defending myself from stupid
politics. I always feel the best managers are those ones who can do but
not felt, but obviously not my boss(es). They just need all those (often
negative) attention....
<snip>
If you for some odd reason, able to get an early retirement and never have
to worry about money again, you'd still face other problems (this is
buddhism btw). One of them is you'd feel like you are waiting to die. Sex
doesn't make you happy, money doesn't make you happy, there is just
something lacking: a sense of purpose. I got fed and taken care of by my
parents a few years ago, and I still had to do some gardening and waiting
my flowers to bloom otherwise I'd really feel miserable.
If I never had to worry about money again, I would not face any of these
problems you speak of. There is so much -world- out there to see. So
many things to do. Things to learn, people to meet, and things like
that. I have a list of things I want to accomplish. Maybe you need one
too.
I think I would be spending a lot of time managing money. Yes, I would
travel once a while, just to take my mind off, but that would be tiring
after a while (I don't particularly enjoy travelling all that much). Yes,
I'd like to meet more people, but I'd prefer meeting you guys since I don't
like new people.... I am weird that way. And my Keirsey test shows I am
extremely introverted. Everybody at work laughed at me when I tell them I
am shy. They really don't believe me since I tend to give them an
impression I am sort of a socialite and sometimes I even organize events.
To me though, it's just work (even events I held were for the purpose of
driving up company morale)....
I'll write books though. I have also thought about teaching. I am just a
very introverted, academian type of person. Going out somewhere isn't much
of my cup of tea (yes, I like afternoon tea), but I see what you mean,
since seeing the world expands one's horizon. Thanks for the advice. :-)
