Yeah, just hook up your current drive as slave and you can transfer
your , ahem, data onto your new sparkling drive. :-)
I think Optician is saying that there is some unusual nature to Phid's
data. Hmmm.
I see Seagate is launching a 750GB drive with perpendicular recording.
Kind of reminds me of the old glass platters with pixie dust that IBM used
in their (initially) highly touted 75GXP series. I think I'll wait a bit
for some real-world reliability to be proven before I invest any data into
one of those.
for backups. We had a Travan 800 Mb tape backup that backed up well,
but restored never. So we got the ORB, which could store up to 2 GB on
a removable cartridge. The cart had a regular platter inside like a
regular disk drive and there was the regular seek arm like a hard
drive in the enclosure. And it worked. At least some of the disks did
some of the time. Sigh, if it only had the reliability of a Zip disk.
:-\ And that's not saying much. Some of the disks would function
flawlessly, others would not format to FAT32, and some would just end
up with Chinese-looking names for your files and wouldn't work at all.
$30 per disk for 2Gb then was a deal, but no reliability on that new
tech front. :-(
