(misc. files getting corrupted, freeze-ups, etc) since August or so.
Today was a low point--on booting, the drive was not seen by the BIOS.
I restarted and it was, and here I am!
I installed Windows 98 on this machine in fall 2002, and then I upgraded
it to XP online back in April 2004. I have a fresh new copy of XP and a
bigger hard drive happily sitting on a shelf together nearby, waiting
for the day when the drive just dies. Reinstalling is a nuisance I
prefer to postpone, though! As it is, My Documents is already backed
up, I save everything to the backup, and I back up my email from
Thunderbird each week. Nothing will be lost save for my programs when
the drive becomes too unreliable to use, but it hasn't happened yet.
heh, sometimes the drive even makes unhappy clanking noices...actually,
it's hard to describe the sound. It reminds me of the sound my battery
backup makes when it switches from its external AC to its internal
battery, so I'm not sure just what I'm hearing.
Oh well. I'll ride this horse till it dies, methinks!
