Anyway, my view is that if you like to play slow rated chess sitting
opposite your opponent in the traditional way, there's no reason not
to join the USCF. In this respect, it's the only game in town, and the

reason enough not to throw away money better spent elsewhere. Such an
apathetic attitude is one of the reasons the USCF is such a lousy
representative for the game.
First comes apathy, then stagnation, then a cesspool of nasty filth
that no one wants to be near.
