It has been reported on Usenet that GM Larry Evans' Chess Life column
has been cancelled.
If this is true, I will not renew my subscription.
This thread was started on March 21 and has generated
828 views and just 17 posts. The above was the only
message threatening cancellation. The contributions naturally
reveal a great deal of respect for Evans' chess
accomplishments, as on rgcp. (He is, after
all, the *sane* home-grown champion) But I don't think
anyone could honestly cite that thread as evidence
that Evans' column is important to the USCF.
For every rigid fanatic the USCF loses due to
modernization, it could gain *several* ordinary
chess lovers. This produces both a quantitative
and qualitative improvement in the membership.
