Nobody is talking about "average" TK. Lern to reed. We are talking
"routinely", not "average".
Ray, the way to correct your semantic mayhem is not by further
semantic mayhem.
Your capitulation noted. Point for me.
Both films seem to be loosely based on a novel by
the Greek author Kazantzakis.
imdb.com does not mention Kazantzakis in the credits for "Never on
Sunday." It lists Jules Dassin as the writer, in addition to director
and co-star. Seehttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054198/
But the plot is the same TK, except for the light comedy in NOS.
Really? "Zorba" is about a man trying to educate a prostitute and
wean her away from that profession? Not in the version I saw. And in
any event, the issue was your claim that both films were based on
Kazantzakis novels. "Never on Sunday" was not, if imdb.com's
information is correct.
No, Zorba is about a book learned academic trying to shape the world
according to his ideals, just like NOS. That's Kazantazkis' book's
theme too, which I have read in the original (no I haven't but that
sounds good).
Then by this logic, we should also credit Kazantzakis with "My Fair
Lady" and "Educating Rita."
Yes, if the setting was Greece, I would. Another point for me.
Quinn had roles in both films
Quinn was not in "Never on Sunday," says imdb.com.
Funny, that.
No, just another error by you requiring correction. Just routine.
It's very easy to check these things on, say, imdb.com or Wikipedia.
Why not do this before you post?
Because I'm trying to lern by posting on Usenet? You are faulting me
for that?
Wouldn't it be better to read before you post?
Then why do you bother to correct me?
So that rgcm readers will have correct information.
Draw. You sidestepped my trap.
Guns of Navarone...I like the ending, where the
Nazis are all putting on their goggles in anticipation of the rocket
launch and get blown up...that was funny.
It was a cannon firing artillery shells, not a rocket launch.
But a cannon's shot--if sufficiently big--has enough power to escape
gravitational attraction if the initial velocity is great enough and
become, effectively, a rocket.
More semantic folderol. An essential difference between a rocket and
an artillery projectile is that the rocket is self-propelled. It
carries fuel which provides motive power for a substantial portion of
its flight, and it continues to accelerate while the fuel burns.
Nothing that does not carry fuel and propel itself in this fashion can
properly be called a rocket.
In contrast, an artillery projectile carries no fuel. It is
propelled by a single, sudden, virtually instantaneous explosion, and
it is at maximum velocity when leaving the gun barrel. It is no more a
rocket than is, say, a spear or a thrown rock.
Wrong again. The fuel is being 'burned if you count the entire
artillery tube as part of the 'rocket'. In any event, the keyword you
missed was "effectively". Point for me.
And in any event, the cannons in "The Guns of Navarone" had nowhere
near enough power to reach escape velocity, and thus they do not fit
even your contrived attempt to redefine them as rocket lauchers.
As if...point for me counted already.
This was demonstrated on paper and
almost in practice by a english-speaking professor who unfortunately
was assassinated by the Mossad.
That would be Gerald Bull's "Project Babylon" super-gun. It could be
argued that his assassination was not unfortunate, since Saddam
Hussein probably intended the gun for military use. I'd say Bull had
done quite enough damage already by helping Iraq with the Scud missle.
So you are in favor of foreign powers assassinating scientists?
Noted. Moral point for me.
You lose something like 4-0 Taylor. And OTB you would probably lose
as well to me, since I'm rated close to Elo 2000 on a good day.
Vamos loser!
