There is no way you can compare a *homeless* person in California with anyone in Africa.
This Generalization is utter crap. First: Africa contains countries like Egypt and South Africa, which have a decent standard of living. And even countries from central Africa are not solely populated by starving people. Most of them are poor compared to our standards, yes, but they are not all as depicted in concerts by Band Aid and others.
A year ago a Munich team had a match against the national team from Uganda. Our guests sureley were not average citizens of their country, most of them have studied. But it was obvious that they also did not live in a bubble in their home, seperated from the rest of their people. When talking to them, in education and knowledge you could hardly find any difference to an educated person from Western Europe, including the possibility to chat with them about European soccer and old German TV shows.
Uganda has modest organized chess with one or two leagues. They play on few boards, the pieces are mixed together from different sets. But they play chess, and they love this game.
And you might get rid of your picture, that everybody in Africa is living in desperation.
Greetings,
Ralf
