Matchpoints , N/S vul.  East passes as dealer, you as South open 1S,
North raises you to 2S.  You hold:

What is your next call?  (If you bid 4C, North will respond 4S.)
Thanks for the many interesting responses.

Eric recommended that South pass.

Actually South signed off in 4S, but either way, we missed a grand
slam because North held

S: AK42  H: 965  D: 2  C: T8543

which looks to be the best shot, assuming North understands that bid.
(However Eric suggested that 5S would fail if North held S xxx   H

North would have bid game in response to 3D, with a singleton D--
sorry, I don't know what you mean by "punt the slam".

Is your agreement that 2 NT here asks partner to show his lowest
queen?  North had no queens, so I guess he would respond 3S.

I guess Boris' suggestion appears to be the best shot at the slam,
although not without risk.

Why aren't Bergen 4 card raises in your structure ?

North: S: QJT763 H: AK4 D:AKJ8 C: <void>

South: S: AK42 H: 965 D: 2 C: T8543

North South
1S 3C ( lower Bergen )
3D* 4S ( reducing the losers by at least 1
in the ostensibly long suit HSGT )

?? ( 5C may do any good; but with SAK, partner might 6S)
( 5S could be confusing since Ht Ctrl not bid)
( 4NT reply w/ 1 key card is nebulous )
( blast to 6S and hope for the best )
( 5NT GST asking for 7S w/ 2 top Sp honors )
