Hi all

Online individual, MPs, Vul vs NV.

You deal and hold:

A8
KQJ8542
T4
A4

What do you bid? 8 tricks in hand, so a strong 2 or Benji 2C would
seem ideal; unfortunately, you're playing no-discussion online 5-card
majors.

Assuming you bid 1H, it goes:

1H - (P) - 2H - (3C)

What now?

3NT might (a) win all the matchpoints, and (b) silence the opponents

Dave Flower

It _might_, but LHO holds six diamonds to the AKQ and it _might_ go
two off for a bottom ;-)-

Possibly, but I would wonder what RHO had for a 3C bid and what
partner had for a 2H bid.
Still, partner could have D Jxxx or partner could have D 9xxx and
RHO has the stiff diamond jack.
Also, with the worst 2H raises, partner is supposed to bid 1NT first
and then bid 2H in Standard Ameircan 2/1

Lots of people do play that way but I don't think it's standard.
Wouldn't it be cool to be playing that way and have the auction go 1H
- P - 1NT - 3C

For that matter, playing Benji, as the original poster wanted to do,
is the auction 2C - 2D - 3C a better stop or a very similar auction in
a Strong Club system. Absent the option to open 2H Acol-style, this
natural auction is the best chocie I see.

so the chances that partner
has the cards we need are better.
Finally, 3NT could be the only game contract that can make on our side
e.g. give partner:
S Qxxx H Axx D Jxxx C xx.

Go ahead and guess partner's exact holding. That Jack of Diamonds is
just too convenient.

I bid 4H. If partner doubles a suprise 5C bid from my LHO I will sit
for it. Otherwise, I will bid 5H over 5C. .
