While the gratuitous insult in another post was _way_ overboard, you
did answer one question with the answer for another. Surely you have
methods for competing against a natural 1C opener. It was clear in
context that the 1C opener was natural. If it weren't, the poster
would have said so and the double, just as yours does, would have
probably carried a different meaning.I have played the Herbert
Negative on Takeout Double auctions but it was long ago. Do you apply
the 1D negative after a Takeout Double of a natural 1C bid?
It would be a reasonable agreement. The only difference between a
polish 1C and a 'could be short' standard 1C is the inclusion of 18+ any
distribution. But if opener has the 18+ any hand it is unlikely to be
our hand anyway so we can discount that possibility when considering our
constructive bidding. The section of WJ2005 that discusses this
agreement never mentions whether the opponent's 1C opener is polish or
natural. Further despite saying the responses are similar to after our
opening (a polish) 1C, it goes on to say that a) 2N is invitational
instead of GF b) 1C-X-p-1M-p-2D shows diamonds instead of a 3+ card
game-forcing raise c)with 7-11 and diamonds it seems to suggest you
should bid 2D instead of 1D but this is unclear. Given all these
changes the responses are similar to our opening 1C seems mildly misleading.
