Hi Everyone
You are playing in a matchpoint game, and incur the following two
disasters. Your agreed-upon "overall style" is SAYC with super-light
opening bids and
takeout doubles, and sound competitive bids. How would you apportion
the blame?

2C 2S 3D 3S
4D DBL (all pass)
Trick 1: KS, x, A, J
Trick 2: 10C, A, x, x
Declarer draws trumps and concedes AH. Result: 4D doubled makes 5, E-
W -610
I don't like the 1S bid, the 2S bid or the 3S bid. On the other hand,
all that action on nothing seems to have caused NS to miss a cold 3NT.
The double of 4D, which seems obviously correct unless you are playing
"bad overcalls only," turns the profit back into a perilous situation.
East's overtaking the Spade King is understandable, given West's silly
raise to two in the suit. So I call it Sixty percent to East. East did
more bad things but West's actions contributed to the last one.
understandable, misapprehension that East had a 1S bid over 1H.
What do you propose that West bids that is demonstrably superior to
2S?
HAND # 2 (N-S are vulnerable, E-W are not)

90% to West. East's jump to 3C might not be to everybody's taste but
it looks right to me.
I agree that West's double was aggressive, but if the DJ had been in
the South hand, it would have brought all the matchpoints.
