3C is strong (game forcing). Opponents are silent.

I think 2D originally is more descriptive. Now you are
stuck trying to show the strength of your hand, if you
had a weaker hand then I think spades 1st is ok. I mean
you have 8 HCP in diamonds and 3 HCP in spades, the
void can't take the 11 points away from you, so 2D
shows both your length and strength. Now if you bid
3D your partner will expect something different. I think
that over 1H - 2D, that your partner will reverse in
spades with a good hand and 4 spades. If he bids 3C
instead (forcing, he doesn't need to show jump values yet)
then you have a descriptive raise of clubs. When you raise
clubs without showing a delayed preference for hearts, then
he will expect a shortness in hearts and more spades, maybe
only 3 spades and 1 heart rather than the actual void and
4 spades, but the picture will be good enough. If he has
a doubleton diamond and only some spade (1-5-2-5) he will
be encouraged over your club raise if it goes that way, and
you bid 2D first. But if he has two spades and only 1 diamond
he is going to be disappointed with your QJxx or two quick
losers and to make 5 clubs it means he can't lose a club then.
Playing 2/1 you bid your diamonds first and then your spades
if you get a chance. I think you should repress your diamonds
only with a hand that can't qualify for a two over one response.
Sometimes playing 5 card majors, you have to chose between
opening a short club or short diamond (3 in suit) and I think
it works best to open the best lead directing suit because
sometimes you wind up defending and do you want a lead coming
to your AKx of diamonds or your QTx of clubs?
