So, Henry and Steven are playing IMPs last night and have this
auction:
Opener Responder
1C 1S
2H 3H
3S 4C
What is responder's basic shape, and is 4C forcing?
More anon.

Thanks to all who responded.
Responder actually held this hand:
Qxxxx
KQxx
x
Txx
In the context of this auction, is 4C
A - the worst bid in bridge history
B - insanely aggressive
C - aggressive
D - reasonable, but I wouldn't bid it
E - what I would have bid on the hand
Henrysun909
F- poor and unexpected for this hand.
Sometimes a reverse sequence is used with an unexpected hand because
opener feels he can control the auction and hopes to learn something
useful. The point being that partner is expected to take the bidding
at face value until informed otherwise [such as a spade fit.
On this auction I expect partner to believe that 3S promises S control
and expects a control from responder [who signs off if he doesn't have
it].
As opener if it presumed that I have the CA and K I will be able to
decipher responder has club length, probably with a useful honor
[hehe] and therefore peg him with D shortness and no available control
to announce. Missing a C honor I'll infer that 4C solidifies my suit
and will continue seeking more controls as my hand warrants.
If 2H was largely predicated on landing in spades then the time has
probably come [no DA?] to sign off in 4S and leave it for partner to
carry on with suffiecient undisclosed values.
