Hi!
I played (natural, RKCB) for the very first time with this guy and this
came up. He had KQ86, AJ9, AQ632, 7 and I had A732, 4, J95, AQT84. MPs,
non-vul, opponents silent, bidding (not the most scientific one) went
1D - 2C
2S - 4NT
5C - 6S
6NT
Down four.
Me: "Hmm...?"
He: "I thought you might have only 3 spades since your first round bid
wasn't spades."
Might I?

Well, if what you are looking for is confirmation that partner is a
dingbat, then you have it.
I'm not looking for any such thing. No way.
What is all this guessing about?
Ok, sorry, my bad. I didn't phrase my main interest clear enough. One
Finnish expert said that I should bid 1S while the other said 2C. So,
should I bid 1S or 2C? Why?
Mika
It depends on what your methods/system are. In 2/1, you must 1S because you
don't have a gameforcing hand and therefore cannot bid the suits in their
natural order. In "standard" whatever where 2C is not showing a gameforcing
hand, you bid 2C because you have enough to go to the 2-level and then
follow by bid in spades.
