Re: 4cM vs. 5(or something)cm

Ok, sorry, my bad. I didn't phrase my main interest clear enough. One
Finnish expert said that I should bid 1S while the other said 2C. So,
should I bid 1S or 2C? Why?

The problem with bidding 2C over 1D or 1H is that none of you might have the
strength to reverse into spades, that is in case a reverse after 2-over-1
show extras for you. If you both lack extras, you might miss a spade fit if
you choose 2C. So in practice with 5C and 4S one typically choose 2C with
gameforcing strength, and 1S with less. Your hand is a borderline case,
which is probably the reason why you get two different answers from the
experts, they had different opinions whether the hand is strong enough to
force to game against a minimum opener. For example the sequence 1D-2C-2NT,
2NT did not deny four spades in case 2S would have shown extras, and your 3S
bid now is game forcing for sure. So you might end up in 2NT when you have
ten tricks available in a spade contract.
