IMPs, both vul, you are in 3rd seat and hold:
AKT98
AKxx
KQxx
void
Partner opens 1NT, 14.5-17. Partner may also tend toward off-shape
notrump openings, not wildly so, but 6-3-2-2 or 5-4-2-2 would not be
unexpected.
How do you approach this hand?
I keep showing my suits until he supports one of them:
1N - 2H*
2S - 3H
3N - 4D
?
At what point (if any) do I get some support?
If never then I bid 6N. If I get D support I bid 5N then 7D over one of the
top honours but 6N if no trump ace. If I get a major supported I cue clubs
and if I get a D cue back I look for the trump Q and bid 7M with it. I am
bidding NT if not in a grand (except in spades where I am happy for partner
to play 6S) in case I need to protect tenaces in partners club suit.
