"Us" is normal. To say "I" in this situation would have carried the
implication that there is something particular about "I" -- for
example that "I" is an authority such as a judge. You're right in
principle that "us" can be presumptuous, but in this case Derek was
simply stating a well-understood fact: Most people are negatively
impressed by the kind of language you used. I include myself among his
"us" and I don't think our club is very exclusive.

Hi Charles,

I appreciate the point in your post. I think I can understand why
this poster is spoiling his own case. I have seen and complained
about outrageous cheating online and seen no action taken. The old
bromide 'we take these allegations very seriously' can get rather
depressing after a while. Actually I do not doubt at all the veracity
of the point that this chap is making, for several reasons;

I have seen similar actions perpetrated against myself.
You couldn't make it up.
I have seen hands compiled on cheaters before.

I think the poster is just exasperated, and understandably short
tempered that after diligently building a case he still can't get a
hearing. I have been there...
