For anyone familar with Seinfeld, there was the Festivus holiday.
December 23rd is normal date. There was the aluminum pole, the airing
of greviances, and the feats of strength, in addition to the giving of
unwanted stuff.

Well, I was thinking that this day could be adopted by boardgames.
Since it is made up (just like Kwanzaa by the way), it could be
adopted. "The giving of unwanted stuff" could be time to swap games
you don't want with other people. The airing of greviances could be
complaining about bad games of the year. And there is the "feats of
strength". Normally done as wrestling, it had developed a contest
element for it. Well, change a bit more, and you have reasons to play
games.
Also noted is the food. Snack and finger food. And the episode "The
Strike" from Seinfeld that featured the holiday.
All the makings of a near PERFECT time to do boardgames. Please post
some ideas here. I do see potential in this. Maybe the date could be
moved between Christmas and New Years and people end up getting
together for game session. All you need is an aluminum pole you can
stand upright, and the food and games, and you are all set.
