Like you said, it is idle speculation, but it would be funny. Mattel is also
guilty of absorbing other smaller game companies previously.

I read "Toy Wars: The Epic Struggle Between G.I. Joe, Barbie, and the
Companies That Make Them" by G. Wayne Miller last year. This was, of course,
told mostly from the Hasbro point of view and is mainly about G.I. Joe and
Barbie but there was some mention of boardgame companies and how lucrative
boardgames are for these giants. If I recall, the book claimed that margins
for boardgames (from these companies) were apparently the largest for a
single category.

There was also a previous attempt by Mattel to buy Hasbro according to 'Toy
Wars'.
