Hello,
I am an intermediate player and have learned the game online.
I played for years on gamesgrid. Really loved to play there. Ofcourse
i tried out all the money websites but i think a serious
backgammonplayer will never play online anymore.
Where can i refind the fun online with good software. I prefer to play
leagues and cups for fun, rankings and a good profile instead of money
of playmoney.
I would love to start my own community based backgammonserver. Any
recommandations where i can find good licensed sofware? I tried to
contact Clubgames but their email is not working anymore. Are they
already dead?
I´ve had about the same problem 2 years ago, spent about a year
searching and talking to 100s of people
At that time CG was still promising, so I actually opened a club there
(which later turned out a big mistake)
I got in touch with existing servers, same as new servers in
development, the best I ever reached was getting a little side job,
$100 paid for reviewing their server and writing them a report, but
even that one, even though paying me for my advice, didn´t listen to a
single word of mine 2 years ago
By today they have made some changes, but obviously way too late, and
by far not enough and even though all the changes they made now had
been on my suggestion list 2 years ago, they deny any connection and
state some "internal experts" have figured this out, not to talk about
further (neccessary) improvements
Long speech short sense, all existing servers as well as all servers
in development (as far as I am aware of them) make the very same
mistakes and no one at all is willing to listen to any kind of
external advice
Among my friends we call them "advice resistant"
The cheapest licensed software offered for sale (as far as I know)
comes from GammonSite and they ask $100,000 for the basic package,
plus customizing
The only alternative to that is a real money server licensed by an
already existing server, i.e. offered by Truemoneygames and
LuckySkill, but that means you don´t have any kind of influence on the
setup, you have to follow their setup and (as far as I know) that has
been a huge loss for everyone who tried
However, after I couldn´t find any halfway usable platform, not even a
halfway user friendly server, I´ve decided to develop my own software
Even on that one, I found no help whatsoever, except of a pretty good
graphics designer, so I ended up programming the entire software all
by myself
Doing this all alone and only in my spare time obviously takes a
while, still I believe, by now the result speaks for itself, at least
the majority of reactions I get is very surprised how far I got
already (it is only beta v0.3.1 so far)
