Over the board X cubed citing market loss if he rolled a 5 or 6,
O trails by 30 pips. In a pure 3-point anchor game he would indeed have a
pass after X escapes. With the 4-point open, this is less clear ; anyway,
if X loses his market after escaping, it should not be by much.
On the other hand, not all 5 and 6 escape, only 14 of them do. And after a
combination of 2, 3 and 4, plus 1-1 1-2 and 1-3 (14 rolls as well), X is
both stuck in a quite vulnerable place and often has to play awkwardly on
his side of the board.
This is probably not a double. A marginal one at best.
O dropped after some consideration.
My dictionary says : "consideration n. 1. careful thought. 2. being
considerate, kindness." Your grammar seems to imply the first definition,
the position the second one.- Hide quoted text -

Hi Philippe,
I do consider myself knowledgeable in English grammar, but less expert
than you in backgammon.
So I'd like to comment purely on your remarks about syntax and
grammar.
In my opinion, the OP's phrase "dropped after some consideration" is
excellent (and unambiguous) English usage!
You seem to be making a mistake in focusing on "consideration" as a
syntactic unit.
Instead, the key object to focus on is the phrase "some
consideration".
This phrase means "a long period of thought," and I think that's
exactly what the OP intended. The word "some" is crucial here,
since that is the word that implies that the thinking took a long
time.
For heaven's sake. It wasn't an "error", his comment was just a
little joke, suggesting that the drop was "considerate" in a
sense other than what was intended.
Also, your dictionary gives highly abbreviated definitions, and you
might consider consulting a more expansive one.
