I've played backgammon casually for more than 5 years, but I'm
interested in getting more into strategy and analysis of the game.
What books / websites / etc. should I consult to learn more about
"proper" play?

Thanks for any and all help.

Hi Brad,

Here's what I have to offer.

There is a good selection of strategy articles to read in the
GammonLife.com Writers section at this link:
http://www.gammonlife.com/writers/index.htm

All of these are written by well-known experts. There is no fee,
registration or login required.

Paul Money's excellent "Beginners Please" series gets more advanced as he
goes along in 13 articles here:
http://www.gammonlife.com/paulmoney.htm

Walter Trice covers some important concepts in 10 articles here:
http://www.gammonlife.com/writers/waltertrice.htm

Mary Hickey's series of "Game Plan Selection" articles are brief but
instructive and there are 13 of them here:
http://www.gammonlife.com/writers/maryhickey.htm

François Tardieu, Backgammon Giant #3, has written the "The Aggression
Coefficient Formula":
http://www.gammonlife.com/06tardieuart1.htm

For those who speak French, François also has a website with some articles
and video tutorials here:
http://www.backgammon-academie.com/

If you do not already have it, get the GNUbg program, which you can play
against and analyze yourself with, a tutorial by Robert-Jan Veldhuizen on
how to download and use it starts here:
http://www.gammonlife.com/gnu/index.htm

1994 World Champion Frank Frigo has a couple of interesting articles here:
http://www.gammonlife.com/writers/frankfrigo.htm

If you want to learn a method to record your live games so you can analyze
yourself later with GNUbg or another bot, expert Jay Bidal has written
"Towards a Better Method of Recording Backgammon Games" found here:
http://www.gammonlife.com/06bidal1.htm

Also check out the new GammonLife Forums at this link
http://www.gammonlife.com/glforum/ specifically the "Backgammon Strategy"
for problem position discussion and and the one called "Early Game Play"
moderator by Stick, who also has another forum here:
http://www.bgonline.org/forums/

Tom Keith's Backgammon Galore website is a gold mine. Read strategy
articles here:
http://www.bkgm.com/articles.html

Or, check out topics you are interested in Tom's Newsgroup and Forum
Archive:
http://www.bkgm.com/archive.html

Finally, the Master of Gammon Links, Mel Leifer, points to a gazillion
other resources to backgammon where you can find more material to study:
http://www.chicagopoint.com/links.html

That should keep you busy for a while.

Best regards,

Michael Strato
