I think they don't care.
Like courses by mail, they aren't taken as seriously by employers
They've improved over the last year, but most of it is PR
Read this blurb :
With the number of students participating in online classes, the
possibility of cheating seems to be much greater. The Internet is an
invaluable tool, and the answers to almost any question can be found
there. Since students are not physically inside a classroom but rather are
at home with no one to look over their shoulder, the issue of cheating has
become one of great attention. Fortunately, professors who teach online
classes have developed new ways to prevent this from occurring. One
example is to conduct live online tests that are timed. Some tests even
have each individual question timed, so that the student cannot "surf the
net"? in pursuit of the answer. A few universities are now using onsite
representatives to be there with the student at the time of the exam, just
to be sure that they are following all of the rules and regulations of the
course and the school, and to verify the absence of cheating.
"A few universities", "Some", "One example"
No standardized method, and largely lip service. Which for college isn't
that big a deal, since most grads actually need to know the coursework to
some degree to function in their jobs. Paying someone to do the science
and math for an engineering degree won't help for long.
There's so much in K-12 that doesn't get used, though, that it isn't the
case there. Worse, the upper level students often cheat NOW to get into
the best school possible.
All teaching K-12 online would do is reward whoever can game the system
the best
This is why employers do their own testing before hiring. A few of us were
looking to hire on with ARAMCO (?) The American Arabian Oil Company in
Bahrain. They tested you by making a surprise call, like at 6am and giving
you're an oral test. I (and my wife) were flown to Huston and given and eye
to eye interview.
You just can't trust "graduation papers" or degrees, today.
why do public teachers unions offer members automatic raises for earning
graduate degrees online then?
