What About Nicotine Patches?
<snip>
In another study, people with left-sided ulcerative colitis who were no longer responding to treatment with oral mesalamine
<snip>
You snipped the suggestion.
Why?

I snip a lot of stuff to keep threads readable =)
I did however reply to 'the suggestion', maybe I wasn't clear.

Seems fairly obvious what you ought to try.

It seems fairly ignorant of you to think my doctor didn't try.
How many years ago?

~ 4 / 5

I'm fairly certain you said you were in your 50's. (and if I'm misremembering, I'm sure you'll correct me)

I'll be turning 40 next year.

The rather graphic question you ask at the end of the post would mean it's been about 2 decades since then.

No, was worded that way because I wasn't sure of your age =)

I never responded to oral mesalamine, and after a few months had to
start taking it the hard way... didn't respond to the butt-pill form either,

And you tried Nicotine patches for how long?

2/3 months (in combination with the liquid mesalamine I had to 'take')

I thought it was EXTREMELY obvious what I was suggesting.

It was.

Apparently not.

No, it was.

Of course, you DID snip this :

again =)

WHY did you snip that?

It's INCREDIBLY obvious I'm fully endorsing using the chemical that will help you, without using the delivery system that will kill you.

You just missed the fact that it was a part of my treatment,
it didn't help. "liquid + patch" in the paragraph which follows is
where I pointed out that they did have me on the patch...

and after a few months of that he switched me over to the heavy duty
liquid (still taken the hard way). Eventually, it was liquid + patch and
I still wasn't responding to treatment.

I thought it would be clear, maybe I should have pointed it out better...

Which would you choose?

Assuming I was ever dumb enough to start smoking (which I'm not)

Option C) Take nicotine without smoking.

If that failed, option B. I'm not killing my loved ones with second hand smoke.

I don't smoke in the house, I go outside =)

I smoke for medicinal reasons.

At no time in this post did you state you took nicotine to try and correct your issue prior to returning to smoking.

Look again.

You mentioned the drug that's supposed to help you, but not nicotine.Since that IS what I'm talkijng about, and

How many other alternatives have you looked into?

Dietary modification

Dietary fibre, meaning indigestible plant matter, has been recommended for decades in the maintenance of bowel function. Of peculiar note is fibre from brassica, which seems to contain soluble constituents capable of reversing ulcers along the entire human digestive tract before it is cooked.[30] Oatmeal is also commonly prescribed.

Oh! I forgot about that shit! They did have me drinking metamucil too.

<snip> How much of this have you discussed with your your doctor?

...................................... <-- that much!

How many people live with you and breathe your second hand smoke?

4/0

I'm not trying to piss you off. My position on smoking is well known. It kills you. It may make you feel better, but there are other ways of doing that.

Death is permanent. You're gone. All the people who give a damn about you are left feeling wretched.

I'm actually more worried about colon cancer than I am lung cancer,
I'm high risk because of the UC and it has a higher mortality rate.

If you haven't looked into this stuff, do.

If you have, and for whatever reason, none of it will work for you, answer this question :

In 20 years, where would you rather be :

A) Shitting into a bag at your grandkid's graduation

B) Decomposing in a box

C) Not sure what C is yet, but that's what I choose =)

Remember, I like you. If I didn't care about your health, I wouldn't do this.

I REALLY don't like death

I don't know anyone that does! Unfortunately, it's inevitable.
None of us are getting off this ride alive... it's just a matter of time.
