top of an ice floe?
Well, I'll tell you about it.

The accompanying story was about how the poor, endangered polar bears
were dying off because of the lack of ice and that stretch of open
water, as if those bears were stranded and in great danger.
Well, it turns out that the photographer says that it was taken in
August, and there was absolutely no danger to the bears.

Ice melts in the summer and it freezes in the winter.
Polar bears can swim.
Who wudda thunk it, eh?
In the WINTER they can't swim FAR enough to get food.
The water's much colder then.
