At the risk of turning this into a whisky forum, I could use a little
advice from the conoisseurs. I've been an occasional whisky sipper for a
long time, leaning toward Canadian because I like the smoothness (not a
lot of bite). My preference has been Crown Royal and I never went into
better/more expensive whisky's.
But after reading all the comments in PP's string I got a craving to try
something better. So I pickup up a bottle of Maker's Mark which I found
surprisingly smooth, but with a distinctive flavor that I don't really
like.
So now I'm debating on what else to try in the same price range. I'm
looking at another Kentucky like Knob Creek or Woodford Reserve.... but
would they still have the same flavor as Maker's?
Or would I better off trying a Glen Livet 12, or Glenfiddich 12?
Also, I normally add a few ice cubes. Any thoughts on ice or no ice?
Knob Creek is little mellower, with a mellow aftertaste, it's still
bourbon though. I'm guessing if you don't drink scotch, maybe the
Glenlivet might be a better start than Glenfiddich, or maybe try a
MacAllan, that's not a bad starter scotch. Who knows if you'll like the
flavor of scotch though, I do.
