Dumbest thing you've done in a casino

I was cleaning out some old papers and came across a note from my first trip
to Las Vegas. To call me a "clueless fish" would have been putting it
mildly. I remember having read and re-read my little paper back copy of "7
Card Stud, The Waiting Game" so many times it was falling apart. I couldn't
wait to get to Harrahs and play in their $1-$4 stud game. Any way, getting
to one of the dumbest things I've ever done in a casino. I was up about
$180 from poker and decided to go wild and bet $20 on a roulette wheel. I'd
never played roulette before but I just had this feeling that "Black-17",
was going to hit. So I walked straight up to the table and put my $20 bill
on "Black-17". The dealer just stared and then some guy in a suit was
standing beside me. He picked-up my twenty, handed it back to me and said
"This is a private table sir". Then it was like the room suddenly came in
to focus. There were a couple of security guards and a whole crowd of
people standing in a circle around this table. And at the table there was
just one player. A little Asian guy with a mountain of chips in colors I
don't remember seeing in my $1-$4 stud game. Apparently this guy was a
whale who, for what ever reason, decided to do his high limit gambling out
on the casino floor instead of a private room. Any way, a few guys in the
crowd were snickering and the rest were looking at me like I just fell off a
turnip truck. I joined the crowd and watched the little Asian guy bet the
cost of my house every time they spun the wheel. And now, all these years
and fifty plus Vegas trips later, I still look forward to visiting the
place!
