Another Urban Legend too good to not to be true, eh? Unfortunatelty
NASA paid $2.95 each for the pens and didn't spend a dime in dev
costs.

Also ..

"Despite popular theory, NASA did NOT invent Tang orange breakfast
drink for the astronauts. It was introduced in 1957 by General Foods
and was on grocery store shelves for years before NASA decided it
worked well in space"

But . you can look to things like Satellite Dishes, Smoke Detectors,
Digital Ear Thermometers, Nickel Titanium alloy used for stuff like
invisible braces, honeycombed aluminium for strong/light structures.
TAnd while they didn't inivent them, NASA had a hand in advances in
cordless powertools, quartz crystal timekeeping, velcro, teflon, and
advanced medical imaging.

But most important spinoff is that we should be a nation of
explorers. The we should seek out the unknown. It's in our nature!

I think alot of the battery technology was developed as a result of
the space program. So i guess those handy cordless drills, circular saws
etc.Hydride, lithium and cadmium batteries.I didn't check this out but
seem to remember the batteries were developed so astronauts could use
them in space.

I think battery powered and cordless tools were developed by a whole "different" industry.
