I think it's pretty clear that anyone still relying on "conventional

It's well past time to start figuring out how to best protect whatever
wealth you have, rather than looking for new investment opportunities.

Have fun doing that. History shows that those who profit in a recession
are the ones who wait for equities and real estate to become extremely
cheap, and then buy them.

Well, that is certainly the conventional wisdom. My concern is that there
will be no significant recovery.

The history seems to be that the economy comes back after a gigantic
war. Except this time, any war sufficiently gigantic to do that will
probably involve nuclear weapons.

Oh, well, I don't mind terribly. I'm close enough to enough important
*** that if it comes to that, the war for me will be a nice, clean,
bright flash and then nothing.

It's kind of hilarious how much time that we used to spend in the 50s
with idiotic "Duck and Cover" type film educational materials, when
there was virtually zero chance of an actual nuclear war, because as
fucked up as the two main nuclear arsenal owners were, they weren't
insane. Game theory more or less guaranteed nobody would take the
first shot.

Now, nukes are within the reach of insane motherfuckers.

And we're on the verge of a global war over resources like the
remaining fossil fuels. Nevermind rare earth metals and other less
critical but nevertheless absolutely necessary resources. With no
cash resources to acquire this ***, the world powers with significant
armed forces will simply seize them. That includes us, China, Russia,
the usual culprits, maybe world power noobs like India. Eventually
our competing demands for resources will result in a situation that
can't be resolved by diplomacy, and that's when the bullets start
flying.

With pretty much every participant in this global struggle to survive
armed with nukes, and with the economic situation so critical that
world leaders literally can't afford to back down, it's not unlikely
nukes eventually fly. That probably drags everyone in, and then we
have one of those beautiful war maps like in WarGames.

And then you can pretty much kiss the human race goodbye.

And what's funny compared with the "Duck and Cover" bull*** of the
'50s is that while we were totally obsessed with nuclear war when
there was almost zero chance of it actually happening, now that
there's a pretty good chance of it happening in the near future,
what's in the news? Fucking Octomom. Missing white girls. ShamWow.

If the human race is doomed, good riddance.

May our archaeological remains serve as a warning to whatever
intelligent species comes after us. Hope they're smarter.

Hope there are fewer Irish Mikes among them.
