taxes?

My guess would be to raise revenue for the government.

Wouldn't any company that produces a good or service just pass this cost on
to their customers? So in effect, the customers are actually paying the
tax, aren't they?

If companies could get away with charging more, they'd charge more
even without the cost increase. Companies have to set prices based
on what the market will bear.

Why tax the companies? I know, "because we can".

The point I'm trying to make with these two questions is that with the
advent of the FED, and the subsequent manipulation of the money supply,
government has at it's disposal a method to create money, as in
counterfeiting, to spend as they see fit without having to come to us
taxpayers for those nasty, embarrassing, voter backlash causing tax
increases.

I suppose that could be a viable method of generating revenue if you
don't mind a little hyperinflation drving the value of the currency to
approach zero.

Taxes give the illusion that the government is collecting money to run the
government, when in fact, the FED could e-print what is required without
going to the taxpayers. Of course, taking some of that money out of
consumers hands, by taxing them, rather than creating it out of thin air
keeps inflation down somewhat.

"Somewhat", eh? It's still early, but this will be a strong
candidate for Understatement Of The Year.
