I call.

Fold?

Seriously, I don't see A9 being ahead of ANYTHING he could raise with here.

If he has just one pair (most likely situation) there is a good chance I
can win the pot by either making a better pair or a straight or by
bluffing at scare cards. I can't think of a lot of cards that a single
pair would like to see hit the board outside of making trips.

Lets see, AK, AQ, AJ, AT have you beat

Hard to see him calling down with that. But Ok, maybe he is a great
reader.

A8 has an OESD which is better than what you have

Hmmm really? Because my read was that he had precisely an 8 in which case
I am a solid favorite. In fact I am ahead of all draws, no?

A7, A6, A5 have you beat

See scare card point above. By just calling the flop raise I have begun
to weave a story. You cannot successfully bluff without a convincing
story.

A4 is OESD again
I don't see a raise with any other A. Any pair has you beat, 2 pair has
you crushed, he'd let you hang yourself if he has a straight already. I
don't see KQ, KJ, KT, QJ, QT any of those raising.

Not even on a one-barrel-to-win-the-pot move? I do it all the time - it's
real easy and quite profitable. That's why I led at the flop - to give
him a chance to raise drawing thin. I would have been more concerned that
I'm beat if he had simply called.

I think you are done and should just fold to his raise.

Still I concede you may be right here. Thanks.
