Those who really have no discretionary income to buy health insurance already have multiple ways that the government helps them. It is mainly young healthy folks who, when they choose what to spend their money on, do not choose health insurance. One of the Democratic plans -- I think it's Obama's -- would force them to buy it whether they want it or not.

Everyone needs to pay into health insurance from the moment they begin to earn money because everyone needs it, sooner or later. There are very few things in life that are more sure than this, death is the only one I can think of.

All things being equal, it all evens out in the end, except for the middle where there is a lot of peace of mind for everyone.

Health should be thought of like safety. Think of police protection as a parallel, if a 20 year old Starbucks employee making minimum wage is being mugged should society not offer her the same police protection with the same vigor as if a lawyer who makes $300,000 a year were being mugged? In Canada we think of a virus as being like a mugger, every person has an equal expectectation to have society come to your aide when you are threatened by a virus as by a criminal. To the victim the threat is equally as dangerous, and the peace of mind in knowing that your fellow citizens stand with you and vice versa against these adversities is empowering.
