I could be wrong (and "idiotic" is pretty strong) but it might be this part:

Many people who are considered experts on Iran believe the same thing, so
while it is fine to disagree with it, I would hesitate to say that it is
"idiotic". We know that Ahmadinejad uses his anti-Israel, anti-America,
anti-West rhetoric to shore up his domestic political support; the economy
in Iran is in bad shape right now and it is to his advantage to distract
the people from the economic problems. The most recent parliamentary
elections in late April resulted in gains for the more moderate
opposition, primarily because of the economic problems. So he benefits
from using the US and Israel as his bogeymen. Every time tensions and
rhetoric increase he gets support from the clerical leaders and the
moderates in Iran suffer.
