Filemon and regmon track access to the file system and Windows registry in
real time. They are useful tools but the amount of data they produce is
likely to be overwhelming to you unless, and often even if, you have an
intimate knowledge of Windows.
Kyle was presumably using them to identify the file and registry
components of the various programs he wanted to run from a USB drive. This
would be a lot easier to achieve using an installation capture utility
such as those included with SMS Installer or Wise Package Studio -
preferably the legacy versions and not the newer ones that generate MSI
databases.
