If it weren't the disasterous Bush we were talking about, I would have
a hard time saying "Gore would have been better." In fact, he might
not have been. But I think it would be hard to be worse.

My favorite Gore story doesn't really reflect as badly on Al as it
does on some of his supporters and the mdia. In a speech at an NAACP
convention, Gore said that his father had lost his last reelection
attempt because of his support for the 1964 Civil Rights act. It is a
verifiable fact that the elder Gore OPPOSED the 1964 Civil Rights act
and voted against it.

His statement might have reflected what his father would have LIKED to
do or it may have been wishful thinking or he might simply have been
lying through his teeth. There were tons of delegates and reporters
there who had to know better but no one called Gore out on it and it
never became a major news story.
