# 1How do I connect to the internet? Are you going to hook up to Cable
ADSL or phone dial up.
Talk to the local ISP's where you live. You are better with cable as it
is faster and it can handle more bandwidth and is compatable for the
newer O/S (operating systems like Vista) 's.
You are going to need a modem. Most ISP (Internet service provider)
will provid this with your package. There tech supprt will help you
with setting it up.
#2 You Ubuntu sound like you do not have enough not enogh Hard Drive
space and you have to pattition the hard drive.
Consider getting a new computer with Ubuntu, prei-nstalled by the
manufurer.A Dell desk top only cost USA $600.Reason to use Ubuntu is
that it is more stable then windows and all the sosftware is freeware
so you do not have to pay.You will find good hekp in the Lunix user
newsgroups. They have good FAQ's(frequently asked questions)
This newsgroup is about poker not computers so your post is really off
topic but ppl will help where they can.Go to e-mail if you want more
help mine is yardleymj2007@xxxxxxxxxxx
Michael, I am a long time poster on this newsgroup and I always preface my subject line
with an "OT" in the rare event that I post something off-topic. Also, I am reluctant to
go to any other newsgroups. For one thing, I recently chastised some people here for
being unfaithful to RGP. I don't want to be a hypocrite.
Regarding the connection, I would want to use DSL, just like I am at this moment with
Windows. I don't understand why if they want to make Linux more user-friendly then why
don't they make it easy to create a new connection just like you can in Windows. Btw, I
chose Gnome as my desktop environment. (mainly because when I had a choice between that
and KDE I thought of Maverick on this newsgroup and for that simple reason I decided to
use Gnome).
And with the Ubuntu issue, it wasn't installing that gave me trouble. I tried to download
it as an iso file and read that I am supposed to burn it to a cd and then use that to
install it on my system. But I couldn't do it. I read up on it but couldn't do it. So
your answer about the size of my hard drive I think does not apply. Perhaps I will buy
the disks someday, but first I want to be happy with using SUSE. If I find no good
reasons to continue with this then I'll probably abandon it and find something else to
waste my time with.
Thanks for your help, though.
