What are your feelings on playing small pocket pairs? I have a good handle onmultiway
playing them in tourneys, but what about cash games?
My personal strategy is to limp with them from anywhere with the intention of
calling a raise of up , and to call raises for up to 4 BB, assuming that:
1. I have a shot at getting 7-1 on my money from either a big stack or
action. I am hoping to bust someone. If the raise comes from a small stack, dump
it because I'm not getting odds.balance
2. There isn't much chance of a reraise behind me - although a reraise would
indicate a possible big pair to stack.
3. I would probably need to mix in some raises with them as well just to
things.
Ideas? Just sticking to points 1 and 2 make sense to me, but it is also very
predictable.
Calling raises "up to 4 BB" is silly, because it is all about the implied
odds. The easier the target to stack after the flop, the bigger the raise
you can call.
A modified 5/10 rule works well, IMO (5% of the smaller of your stacks
preflop against a tougher player, 10% against a weaker player).
