Will - have you ever dealt cards? One of the first things a dealer
learns
is to take in all unprotected cards. And... one of the first thing a
player learns is to protect their cards.

I have dealt, and while that may have been the case many years ago, it is
not current teaching. A dealer's job is to accurately following the
action, and muck any cards from players who have folded (among many, many
other things).

Would you prefer to have the dealer every time there are cards out that
are
not capped whether the player meant to fold?

That is what we are taught to do, yes. Interestingly enough, humankind is
a species which learns from repeated stimuli. If a dealer mentions it a
2-3 times to a player, they will tend to keep their cards protected. If
they do not, then there will eventually be a case where a dealer makes a
mistake and they will learn the hard way. The hard way, however, is not
necessarily the best way.

I can't argue with how you were taught, but I don't think this by any means
universal.

I hope you never play in a room that collects time, because you will be
dealt half the number of hands.

Untrue.

Untrue? How can this possible NOT slow down the game?

And any casino that takes a rake would be very unhappy with this.

Untrue. At 90+% of casinos where I have played, the dealers ask. Thus,
it cannot be a big burden to the casino staff.

Never did I say a burden on the casino staff. I meant unhappy with a
reduction in rake because of the slowdown.

The dealer was doing the job he was taught to do.

I don't think anyone has not ever had his hand mucked once. It's a
lesson
most every player has to learn.

Yes, one way or another. Better to learn it the non-confrontational way
though.
