my best friend is a Scott...born and raised in Edinburgh, and she (along
with all her friends) greatly dislike the English They all refer to the
Queen as "that cow". It has been explained to me that the Scotts hating the
English goes farther than the issue of home rule, but was fueled by
centuries of what they saw as unfair taxation (check up on the sofa tax,
that was a good one...I think thats what it was called, had something to do
with furniture being taxed). So, while the English may think that only a
minority of Scotts hate them, they only have to look at why, then, have the
Scotts fought for (and won btw) home rule. The only difference between the
Irish fight for home rule and the Scotts is that the Scotts did it through
parlimentary political venues. I don't even pretend to be well versed in
the politics involved here, but I do know my friends overseas are...and they
definitely hate the British rule.
